Supreme Court Grants Premature Release to 105-Year-Old Life Convict

In Rasik Chandra Mondal v. State of West Bengal, the Supreme Court ordered the premature release of 105-year-old life convict Rasik Chandra Mondal, who was convicted in a 1988 murder case. Considering his advanced age and prolonged incarceration, the Court found no justification for sending him back to prison.

The Court made his interim bail absolute, allowing Mondal to remain free and effectively bringing the proceedings to an end.
